M for M

How may times do we think about the origin of an alphabet? Well after stumbling on a lot of words with M that did not charm me, I decided to read on the origin of the word M.

It is said have it origin from the Egyptian Hieroglyphic meaning “Owl”. Some also believe that it comes from the Phoenician Mem via Greek Mu, μ.

The beginnings of alphabetic scripts could be traced to around 1600 to 1500 BC via the Phoenician [Traders who still live around Lebanon].  Do read this stunning post on where alphabets come from here.
