An Elephant goes to work

Day 6- Marathon Bloggers

Yes I am the girl who has an inseparable stuff toy. I have had some toy or the other since my childhood.

First one was called Moti lal [Hindi name for pearl] Second one was Moti lal Junior then came Ellu. He is the apple of my eye. I have known him for 5 years now. He was gifted to me in Nov 2007 by friends at B School. A question that people ask me all the time is you have grown up, why do you need a soft toy?

It is not about being a big or small girl, it all about my comfort level. All these soft toys have been my imaginary friends and have stood by me through thick and thin.

Never discourage a child to have imaginary friends [Well harmless ones only, I dont mean to say super natural ones]. The more you pull it away from them, the more they will be question its sanctity.

Never tell them it is bad or people will laugh at them. It makes them more conscious of themselves. Thankfully my parents didnt do that to me. They had no opinion about it until I was getting married. 😛 However by that time I was big enough to understand that I shall take my own time to let it go if I have to.

Hiding their special toy will only spoil your and his/her day. You can pacify the child once but he/she might start thinking that if they love something so much, you will take it away from them. Do you really want that?

These things/toys are only a phase for many but for a few they are a part of life. Last few days have been very hectic at work. I have been working late, I have a broken toe, I have been eating food out on work days…. All this was making me irritable. Hence the pati asked me take ellu to office 🙂 This is his maiden trip to a work place. He does not seem to have a lot of fun because he is carefully tucked away is a huge bag.

I love him unconditionally, this is the kind of love I wish I had for the people around me. The pati often remarks that he would never be able to take the place of Ellu in my life. All i need for him to do is be around. Sit in my lap while I scratch him. He helps me take decisions, makes me calm and more over gives me the feeling of someone is right there.

People might link it some psychological thing or my childhood, they might even judge me and my life, but I am not insane. I am just a girl who loves her soft toy a lot 🙂

To love

  1. I love this post. I am still attached to all my stuffed toys. While relocating I didn’t bring them along. I promised my sister that when I am visiting Delhi again, I will bring them back with me. 🙂 I agree. In the tough times, they are like pillars and make us feel connected with ourselves. *hugs*

    1. They both are my soul mates. So they need to adjust 😀 Him being the best friend too..Knows what is best for me. Thank God for such blessings

  2. I know exactly what you mean. I carry a bar of chocolate to talk to and then eat up in times of stress. 🙂 jokes aside – we all need that something. And btw, your ‘pati’ sounds fantastic!

  3. such a honest and sweet post! I’ve heard of the phase in a toddler’s life when he/she might start having imaginary friends. I’ve also read that it is very normal and a part of growing up phase. Good to learn something more about this.I shall not question or judge anyone by his/her imaginary friends..happy to know about Ellu 🙂

  4. Could so identify with what you’ve written. I still have all my barbies and soft toys with me..and the reason I have them is because they remind me of my mother. And as Jane has already pointed out, your Pati does sound fabulous!

  5. Awww! So cute.. Me too .. same pinch.. I love soft toys .. all my gifts to me for a long time have just been soft toys! I have a collection of a few favorites that i havent yet gien to my daughter too 😛
